Last minute show and tell

Everyone is trying to finish their Christmas gifts at the last minute! Not these ladies though. They have all finished at least one table runner now. We are running the Quilt-As-You-Go table runner in term 2 next year. You don't have to use Christmas fabrics, although it does make you use it for at least one month per year!!

Oh! This is Rosemary with a finished table runner.
And another Rosemary with her finished quilt.

These blocks were machine-embroidered, then quilted by Deep Creek Quilting.

This is Peggy Pigtails - made by Annie, published Australian Patchwork and Stitching.

I know all recipients will love their gifts!
Happy Christmas to all, we look forward to seeing you (and your show and tell) next year!

UFO sessions

UFO sessions - where you can learn just about anything!!

Gabbie brought in a quilt (only the second quilt she has made) that she wants to machine quilt. She really just thought she needed a few pointers on stippling. Well, guess again! Lorraine showed her how to "really" baste a quilt for machine quilting (especially dense quilting).

Then Lorraine showed some other "fill" stitches other than stipple (which can be quite difficult for beginners to obtain smooth curves of even sizes). This fill stitch was perfect for Gabbie. She could backtrack, stop at pointy bits, and get of a corner she had sewn herself into. As you can see the quilting looks fabulous.

Would you like to learn machine quilting? Take as much time as you need to. See our UFO classes in the class schedule at the sidebar for more details.

This is Rosemary's completed quilt-as-you-go Christmas tablerunner. It is fabulous! Now she wants to make another one for use all year round!!
Don't worry, we will run the class again in term 2.

William Morris fabric kits

So, you love the idea of making a William Morris inspired quilt, but don't know where to start? What fabrics will you use? Where will you use each fabric? Which pattern?

We have the answer for you! This picture shows the quilt "Morris Magic" designed by Michele Hill.

The pattern and instructions are published in Michele Hill's first book William Morris In Applique (published 2009).

Michele Hill selected fabrics from her William Morris range The Adelaide Collection to make up this quilt as pictured here.

Stocks are strictly limited, we are unable to reorder this fabric.

Patience is a virtue!

Good things come to those who wait, and have we waited patiently!!

These Morris Tapestry fabrics (designed by quilt historian Barbara Brackman) were due to arrive in November - but we are so happy to see them, we don't mind!! Soft and pretty fabrics to complement your existing Morris fabric stash....
Of course, you could start a new collection of fabric just to make sure you include these fabrics!

A prints vary in tone, colour and scale of prints.
You won't want to miss out on these prints. They will go very quickly.

Class show and tell

Alison wanted to make a quilt for a sick friend - but she was in a hurry. Alison dug out these blocks and pieces that were already made, but she didn't know what to do with them.

Alison came along to UFO class. Lorraine did the calculations, Alison cut and sewed. Doesn't it look great? Alison sure looks pleased. Thanks for showing us before you give it away Alison. Amanda has made a few quilt tops before (and started a whole lot more!!), but this is the first quilt she has almost finished. It's the 12 fat quarter quilt (see our class list on the side bar) made with William Morris fabrics from The Adelaide Collection.
Quilted by Deep Creek Quilting. Thanks for showing us before it's given away for Christmas!!

Class show and tell!!

"Welcome To The North Pole" is such an exciting class!! There is always so much to look at!

Here we have some show and tell from the second year's graduates.

Everybody has made their quilt truly their own.

These are ready for embellishment - the last step in the class. (Even if you don't get the embellishment finished this year, you can still hang the quilt!!).
We started these quilts in August to allow participants plenty of time to complete their quilts."Deadlines" for each stage definitely help you to get a move-on with your quilt!Have you always wanted to make the North Pole quilt? Join us next year!! All participants require their own personal copy of the book "Welcome To The North Pole" by Piece O'Cake designs. Wowee! Now that is an embellisher's heaven! What tidy little organised boxes of goodies!
Really, one can keep embellishing for years...
Thanks for the show and tell girls...

Unstoppable!

This is Antje's fourth quilt - and they are all large quilts!

I suspect this quilt is for her son for Christmas - Antje is unstoppable at the moment! There are many more quilts she wants to make!
Thanks for sharing with us Antje.
