Receive help with the project you are working on, or start a beginner's course... see the class list on the side bar for more information)....

But wait, here is another finished quilt!!

Liza finished these just in time for the recent Lancefield quilt exhibition.

Thanks for the show and tell Liza.

Judy's quilting

Judy loves to hand-quilt, but she doesn't like to be in photos. *grin*

This is an enormous Dresden Plate quilt she just finished. It is quite heavy - two people found it difficult to hold up properly for a photo.
Check out the Dresden Plate design quilted on the blank squares.

Update: Judy has been learning free-motion machine quilting in our UFO (UnFinished Objects) sessions.. (see the class list on the side bar for more information). Get out of her way! She is quilting up a STORM!!!
Go Judy!!

Kellee's first quilt

Yes, Kellee came to us to learn beginner's machine piecing with Carol (see our class list on the side bar).... and

Yes, she has been making sampler blocks....

But, this is her first absolutely finished quilt. Made from a bali pop (same amount of fabric as in a jelly roll, but with batik prints).

Congratulations Kellee, we look forward to seeing you finish many more!!

Rosemary's plane quilt

Rosemary worked on this quilt during our Friday morning UFO classes. (That's UnFinished Objects for the uninitiated)... Quilted by Wilma at Deep Creek Quilting - the clouds around the planes are perfect. Quilting really does make the quilt special.

Join us for fun times and social interactions during UFO sessions - and of course - an experienced tutor will help you with your latest project!!

Thanks for sharing your quilt with us Rosemary.

Learn how to machine quilt

Maylene has been learning to machine quilt during our Friday night UFO sessions (click the link to class list on the right side bar for more information).
She is quilting up a storm, and actually finishing lots of quilts. This is a close-up to show you the free-motion swirls quilted in a variegated Signature thread.

Swirls are the perfect complement to the linear geometric pieced quilt.

Thanks for the show and tell Maylene. We all look forward to seeing more of your finished quilts!!

Class show and tell

Alison wanted to make a quilt for a sick friend - but she was in a hurry. Alison dug out these blocks and pieces that were already made, but she didn't know what to do with them.

Alison came along to UFO class. Lorraine did the calculations, Alison cut and sewed. Doesn't it look great? Alison sure looks pleased. Thanks for showing us before you give it away Alison. Amanda has made a few quilt tops before (and started a whole lot more!!), but this is the first quilt she has almost finished. It's the 12 fat quarter quilt (see our class list on the side bar) made with William Morris fabrics from The Adelaide Collection.
Quilted by Deep Creek Quilting. Thanks for showing us before it's given away for Christmas!!

UFO show and tell time

Elsa enjoys sewing so much, she is nearly finished all her UFOs!! This quilt is just finished - quilted by Wilma. This Santa wallhanging is a small addition to a large Santa collection quilted by Elsa!! Elsa learned how to hand-quilt in UFO classes, and she has taken to it like a duck to water!!
This little swag is also hand-quilted.

I think you are set to decorate for Christmas Elsa!!
Would you like to join our UFO sessions? We can help you with your UnFinished Objects... you will even be able to forget about the washing!! See our class list on the side bar for more information.

UFO sessions

We have a lot of fun in our UFO sessions. (That's a session where you receive help to work on your UnFinished Objects...) Sue is a regular UFO attendee on Friday mornings. Can you see the tiny skerrick of sandpaper she is using here? Oh, we had a laugh!! Mitre 10 is straight across the road, but she doesn't need a new piece of sandpaper!! Hee hee.

Rosemary is working on Welcome To The North Pole - using the original block setting as pictured in the book.

We love your blocks Rosemary!
Would you like to join us for UFO sessions? See the class schedule on the right for more details.

Little dresses

Looking at these finished goodies makes us smile too Sue!

You couldn't wipe the smile off Sue's face when she came in to show us her latest finished items. Since she started attending UFO classes, Sue has finished quite a few quilts and pieces... she is gaining confidence in basting, machine quilting and freemotion quilting.

Sue used the little dresses panel (available in store) to make this little quilt and bag... and there is another quilt to be made for another little granddaughter.

Something tells me Grandma is going to keep the bag for herself though....

What would you like to learn? We run UFO sessions all week: morning, afternoons and evenings. See the class list on the sidebar for more information.

Homework for the teacher...

Sue brought this feature fabric into a UFO class and asked "What will I make with this?".
Lorraine quickly designed this colourful layout that allows the quilt to double as a play-mat. Naturally, it will also make a great cubby-house. *wink*
Sue has finished all her homework (the train tracks are made by ironing fusible web onto the back of black fabric, rotary cutting the fabric and positioning the track pieces on before fusing. Machine zig-zag secures the tracks to the quilt top.
Sue returned to class after some her homework, and said "How will I quilt it?".
I am really proud of you Sue, your quilt looks wonderful, and you made it all yourself.
Stay tuned to the class schedule button on the right for upcoming classes.
P.S. We have one place in the quilt as you go table runner this Saturday. Would you like to come along?

Carol's UFO sessions

Jan (pictured left) started to make her beginner sampler with Carol (pictured right)... until she became sidetracked by the French Braid quilt. (Luckily, Carol teaches both UFO sessions and beginner classes for the quilting novice)...

It is a truly ginormous quilt. I just can't fit in the entire quilt in shop space for a photo.

This quilt definitely needs to be professionally quilted. It will hang down the sides of the queen bed, that's for sure.

The colourstream fabric (changing from purple to fuschia to pink) is available in store.

We just received some new batik strip packs (2.5inch strips) perfect for making French braids like this quilt.

UFO classes

Anita came along to UFO (UnFinished Object sessions to learn free-motion quilting. What do you think of this little sample?
She followed the design on the backing fabric. This is the top.

I am so proud...

I am so proud of Sue, pictured here with her French Collection quilt.

Sue collected the Robyn Allen-Waters stitchery blocks as part of a Block Of The Month with us during 2008.

This year she started to join them into a quilt using our exclusive quilt pattern designed by Lorraine for Quilter's Bazaar.

Then Sue attended UFO classes here at the Quilter's Bazaar to learn basteing and free-motion quilting.
The binding is complete, and the buttons are all attached.

What an achievement Sue! I am so proud of you. Thank you for sharing with us.

Sue loves stitchery

Sue A. loves stitchery!! Instead of more redwork, she chose to do some "greenwork". Don't these stitcheries look smashing combined with fabrics from Rural Jardin and Cherish Nature?Sue came along to one of our Friday morning UFO sessions to construct the quilt centre. She is completing the border at home. Click on the class schedule link on the right sidebar to see more about our UFO classes.
You can find patterns for these stitcheries in the book "Tea With Friends" by Bronwyn Hayes.

Jenny's butterflies

Jenny came along to our Friday morning UFO (UnFinished Object) class to learn how to make these 3-dimensional butterflies.

Jenny learned how to use fusible web, free-motion embroidery and how to make the most of rayon embroidery threads.

This is her show and tell. Thank you Jenny! I am sure you will be making many more!

NB. Lorraine teaches UFO sessions every Friday morning and fortnightly evenings. See our class schedule on the right sidebar. What would you like to learn?

Glass Mosaic Quilts

This is Glenda with her stack and slash quilt. Glenda made this quilt to learn the quilt-as-you-go technique during UFO sessions with Carol.
Jenny also made one at the same time -this motivated the ladies to progress with their projects quickly.

I hereby name these quilts "Glass Mosaic Quilts".

I'm sure you will agree, they are both stunning - and so very different. I love to see similar quilts in different fabrics displayed at the same time. What a difference fabric choices can make!!

UFO classes

If you want to learn, we can show you how... in our UFO sessions.

Due to popular demand Lorraine's UFO sessions are now every Friday morning 10am-12:30pm and alternate Friday evenings 7pm-9pm (bookings essential). Sue is learning to free-motion quilt. We put the quilt top together in UFO class, pin-basted the quilt on another day and now Sue is quilting leaves onto the quilt top.

The Matilda's Own gloves have little grippers. This relieves your shoulders and wrists as you don't need to press down very hard to move the quilt. Sue is using an extension table with her machine - I think it's an absolute must if you are free-motion quilting large articles.

This is Dorothy. She just learnt to machine blanket-stitch during UFO class.

This will be part of a baby quilt. We have fused on some flower fairy cutouts to use broderie perse applique.

The white areas will be machine blanket-stitched on. The parts of the fairies overlapping the purple writing will be hand-stitched.
The fairies really jazz up the centre of the baby quilt.
Would you like to join our UFO sessions? Just phone or drop into the shop to secure your place. If you want to learn, we can show you how.

UFO classes

Trish came along to our UFO (Unfinished Objects) class as she needed tutor assistance to make this bag she bought in a kit.

Next thing you know, it's made in only 2 days... (she got most of it made in class, it was easy to make, but hard to understand the instructions if you are a beginner)...

Trish used the new bag batting currently in stock. It's flexible, but holds it shape beautifully. Look at it sit up. It's also in the handles.

We now run 5 UFO sessions per week... Carol or Lorraine will assist you to finish the projects you need help with, or just want to be motivated to finish.
Our new class list will be on the side bar before Christmas.
