Sharyn's blog

Is this Sharyn's blog? Or the Quilter's Bazaar blog? *grin*

We are pleased to present more show and tell by Sharyn.
This is a quilt she made using a "swag" - that's a roll of fabrics cut at 5.5 in wide.

This simple arrangement showcases the fabrics. Delightful.

And, her is another Fat Quarter quilt by Sharyn - it's a quick baby quilt for a little girl (as if you couldn't tell).

Ooh, we love show and tell. What are you going to make next?

Stef is 21

What a lucky, lucky, young woman... This is only one of Stef's 21st birthday presents.

Made by Sharyn. Yes, this is her THIRD fat quarter quilt, and they all look very different!! These blocks are alternately bordered in black and pink to increase the size of the quilt to fit a Queen bed.

Thanks for sharing with us Sharyn and Stef.

Would you like to make a quilt like this? This is "Lorna's 12 Fat Quarter Quilt". Click the label on the sidebar to see more show and tell like these....

You can join us next term for a one day class to make this quilt. The new class list will go up soon.

Sharyn's other FQ quilt

This was Sharyn's first fat quarter quilt - made in class with Andrea. It's "Lorna's 12 fat quarter quilt".

Made from... drum roll please... *hahaha* 12 Fat Quarters!!!

Sharyn has already shown us another 12 fat quarter quilt - the purple one was started first, but this one was finished first.

Sharyn's quilt

Sharyn whips up quilts like she is in a frenzy! I wonder how many she had made!!

Those are her feet sticking out at the bottom of the quilt. :)

This is made using the techniques Sharyn learnt in our 12 fat quarter quilt class.

See our class list for more details. Thank you for show and tell!!

Last minute show and tell

Everyone is trying to finish their Christmas gifts at the last minute! Not these ladies though. They have all finished at least one table runner now. We are running the Quilt-As-You-Go table runner in term 2 next year. You don't have to use Christmas fabrics, although it does make you use it for at least one month per year!!

Oh! This is Rosemary with a finished table runner.
And another Rosemary with her finished quilt.

These blocks were machine-embroidered, then quilted by Deep Creek Quilting.

This is Peggy Pigtails - made by Annie, published Australian Patchwork and Stitching.

I know all recipients will love their gifts!
Happy Christmas to all, we look forward to seeing you (and your show and tell) next year!

Class show and tell

Alison wanted to make a quilt for a sick friend - but she was in a hurry. Alison dug out these blocks and pieces that were already made, but she didn't know what to do with them.

Alison came along to UFO class. Lorraine did the calculations, Alison cut and sewed. Doesn't it look great? Alison sure looks pleased. Thanks for showing us before you give it away Alison. Amanda has made a few quilt tops before (and started a whole lot more!!), but this is the first quilt she has almost finished. It's the 12 fat quarter quilt (see our class list on the side bar) made with William Morris fabrics from The Adelaide Collection.
Quilted by Deep Creek Quilting. Thanks for showing us before it's given away for Christmas!!

12 FAT QUARTER SHOW AND TELL

I love show and tell from classes. Andrea taught Lorna's fat quarter quilt class today. All participants had so much fun!!

Everyone pieced all 12 blocks and joined them together.

I was able to snap photos of Susan and Sue's quilt tops as they stayed behind to add the borders and even started to piece the quilt backs!
Would you believe 3 of 6 participants were making their quilts from the Rural Jardin fabric range? They all look so different. I have made my blocks, I just need to piece them together!!

Thanks to everyone who visited us at Melton Willows quilt exhibition this weekend!

Another Fat Quarter Quilt class

Yes, another 12 Fat Quarter Class was held recently. This quilt is such a favourite! There are no seams to match, and these are the results after a day in class... nobody wants to add to their UFO list do they?
The pink and green quilt is mostly made from fabric in the Farmer's Market and Mezzanines ranges.
This brown and teal quilt is mostly made from the Alliance 1800s repro fabric range.

These gorgeous indigo fabrics are from the Nancy's Favourites Blues range.

The rusty coloured fabric with the birds was the inspiration for this quilt, from another range named Meadowsweet (it gets confusing doesn't it?)

The bird fabric will be a main border around the outside of the quilt.

We can't wait to see your finished quilts ladies! Thank you for letting us share here..
The 12 Fat Quarter Quilt class will run again in term 2, 2010. We have lots more exciting new quilts to share with you next year!
If you subscribe to this blog (click on the right side up the top) you will be one of the first to read about the new classes as soon as they are published...

A quilt for a friend

This is the first quilt Sue has made. It's a 12 Fat Quarter quilt - Sue chose the fabrics for her friend who lost her home in the bushfires last year.

A lot of love has gone into making this quilt - it's always hard to give away your first quilt.
It's really lovely Sue, and a credit to you. I am sure it will be well loved.

Catching up on classes past...

I hadn't shown you these quilt tops yet - these were made in one of our 12 Fat Quarter Quilt Classes (we have another class starting very soon - check the class schedule on the sidebar).

Actually, I couldn't show you these photos straight away because some of the participants would not let me photograph them until the quilt tops were brought back completed with borders... like the one above. Monika used the Pashmina range of fabrics.

Liz used warm fabrics from the William Morris fabric range.

Tania chose a different selection from the William Morris range.

Lorraine made this quilt for a little girl using Farmer's Market fabrics.

This one is made from Floragraphix fabrics, modelled by the maker!!

This one is made using a personal collection of cat fabrics. I think it shows that you can use absolutely anything to make the 12 Fat Quarter quilt and it will look fantastic.
Won't you join us to make your own? Betcha can't make just one!!

Quilts that bring us pleasure...

I would like to extend a very big thank you to Sandra for coming out of retirement to travel from Queensland where she now lives, to teach the 12 Fat Quarter Quilt here for 2 days. Boy, did we keep her running around!!
I just love to see how different fabric choices make a totally different quilt with this pattern.

This one is made using the Symphony range of fabric (we don't have much left now).
The Intrigue range (above) is only $15 per metre.

These pinks are from lots of ranges - all circa 1800s.
William Morris fabrics were really popular for these quilts because you don't cut the large motifs into tiny pieces.
Even those are strikingly different - with 40 William Morris fabrics to choose from, each person chose 12 to reflect their own tastes. The quilt below is made using fabric that had only been in the shop for 3 days!!
Read more about the Folklorica fabrics in a previous blog post.
All participants worked really hard to complete most of their quilt tops. There are only a few borders left to add before quilting and binding! YAY!!
